Direct Synthesis of Aluminum Bromide: A Vigorous Reaction with Bromine

Experiment showing direct synthesis of aluminum bromide from the elementary substances. The reaction is very vigorous and can be presented by the equation:
2Al(s) + 3Br2(l) = Al2Br6(Br2).
The product, as indicated by the equation, is dissolved in the excess bromine.
