D.C. (Dist. of Criminals), March 3, 2025 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledged Sunday night that an end to the war with Russia remains “very, very far away,” even as U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz warned that time is not on his side.

Despite Zelensky’s confidence that American support will continue, President Donald Trump is set to meet with national security officials Monday to discuss the future of U.S. aid to Ukraine. A White House official has indicated that Friday’s tense Oval Office meeting between Trump and Zelensky may accelerate the decision to end military assistance, including intelligence sharing and troop training.

“[Zelensky] is not ready to talk peace at all,” Waltz said Monday on Fox News, adding, “Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict.”

Meanwhile, European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are reportedly working on an alternative peace plan that includes a 30-day ceasefire and potential deployments of European troops to Ukraine. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has also expressed interest in military involvement, as NATO pressures the U.S. to maintain its support.

With the U.S. shifting its stance, Ukraine may soon need to rely more heavily on European allies to sustain its war effort.
