In this sermon, "Remain Humble as You Trust God," we explore the importance of humility in our relationship with God and how it leads to divine guidance, courage, and honor. Beginning with Moses' reluctance in Exodus 3:11, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh?" we see how recognizing our limitations allows us to rely on God. God's reassurance in Exodus 4:12 emphasizes that He equips us for His purposes, just as He promises in Isaiah 41:10 to strengthen and uphold us.
Humility is foundational for obedience, as seen in 1 Corinthians 3:18-23, where worldly wisdom pales in comparison to God’s wisdom. Humility also prepares us for honor, as Proverbs 18:12 reminds us that "humility comes before honor," and Philippians 2:8 highlights Christ’s ultimate act of humility in His death. Like Moses at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:13-14), humility enables us to trust God’s power and remain silent in His strength, rather than in our own.
Through the example of Moses, we learn that humility produces courage for the battle (1 Samuel 17:10-11) and helps us remain steadfast in times of struggle. Trusting God in the unknown, as Psalm 20:7 shows, is essential. By accepting God's correction (Numbers 20:7-10) and persevering through trials (Exodus 14:13-14), we grow in our trust and obedience, learning to live with the quiet confidence that God is with us every step of the way.
