Tree symbolism and the human nervous system.

Trees are ancient sentinels of the natural world. They have stood as profound symbols of humanity throughout the ages. Their majestic branches, reaching skyward, represent aspirations of growth, wisdom, and the attainment of our full potential when supplied with the right conditions.

From the myths of ancient Egypt and the allegories of the Greeks to the legends of the Norse and Druids of the North. From the far reaches of Eastern Asia to the deepest depths of Vedic cosmology on the Indian sub-continent and further, the humble tree stands as an enduring icon of life, stability, and powerful universal energies.

On the anatomical scale, the tree represents the realisation and circulation of the conserved life force. The roots of a tree can be metaphorically linked to the root-like nerve bundle at the base of the human spinal column - the sacral plexus. The spinal column itself may be viewed as the trunk of a mighty tree. The raising of the sacred force along this conduit is akin to the lifting up of nutrients and water by the roots of a thirsty tree; its canopy, full of life, reminds the dedicated practitioner of the awakening head centre when the great light is lifted to the peak of the spine - the trunk of the human body.
