In a recent debate in the House of Commons on February 27, 2025, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy addressed serious concerns regarding the BBC documentary,* Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone*.
The film, narrated by a 13-year-old boy, was revealed to have undisclosed connections to Hamas, a proscribed terrorist organisation in the UK. Nandy emphasised the need for the BBC to uphold the highest editorial standards and announced an urgent meeting with the BBC chair to seek assurances about the documentary's production process.
She also demanded "cast-iron" guarantees that no payments were made to Hamas.
The BBC has since removed the documentary from its platforms and initiated an internal review to address these issues.
Following the BBC's controversial Gaza documentary, public trust in the broadcaster has plummeted.
Increasingly, people are refusing to fund the BBC through the licence fee – and for good reason!
However, the government is now seeking new ways to force you to pay, even if you only watch Netflix, Disney+, or other streaming services.
Is this fair? Should the BBC demand money from people who don’t even use their service? Let us know in the comments! 👇
