Ukrainians applauded President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for standing up for their country after an explosive meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, which ended with the Ukrainian leader being asked to leave the White House.
“You know, it looked like fighting a hoodlum from the block,” said one Kharkiv resident, who compared the altercation to a scene from the movie ‘The Godfather.’

After the meeting, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Zelenskyy, who was in Washington to sign an economic deal with the U.S. that is seen as a major step in bringing an end to the war, can come back “when he is ready for peace.”

Zelenskyy, who saw the meeting as a chance to persuade the U.S. against supporting Vladimir Putin, openly challenged Trump over his softer approach to the Russian leader.
Ukrainians suggested he had “defended” Ukraine amid “pressure” from the U.S.
