Project CW (Cold War) - Alpha 2 Release - Quick Match - March 2025

~~~~~ What is Project CW? ~~~~~

Project CW (Cold War) is the tank vs tank game set in the Cold War period instead of the World War 2 version of their previous tank incarnation “World of Tanks”.

This is the Alpha version of the game. So issues like game balance, map design and whole host of things needs to be fleshed out and the only real way to do that properly is to have a limited release where thousands of games can be played and millions of data points can be analyzed.

~~~~~ Is Project CW Pay to Win? What about in-game advertisements? How many are there? How intrusive are they? Do you get anything for enduring them? ~~~~~

As this is an Alpha version of the game, we can not say anything definitively.

That said, we expect the same model that is used for their other games to apply to this one as well. Namely, these are:

No advertising.

Real World cash will get the player in-game currency which can purchase skins and boosters.

Real World cash will also unlock special premium vehicles which have the advantage of cheaper repair costs.

~~~~~ Is There Any Objectionable Material in this game? ~~~~~

This all depends on how you feel about tank combat. Since this game depicts realistic warfare, that can be considered objectionable in of itself.

Apart from the game premise, there is nothing objectionable that we have found. Wargaming seems to go out of its way to make certain that nothing beyond the game's premise is objectionable.

~~~~~ Is Project CW fun to play? Is the game challenging? Is this game a grind? ~~~~~

Fun really depends on how much you like this style of game.

As with many player vs player only games, the game will figure out your ranking and attempt to make each match as fair as reasonably possible. Which makes sense. Blowout wins and blowout losses are not fun. But no one wants to wait 10 minutes for a match either so it is always a balancing act between match fairness and wait time.

Is this a grind? Many of Wargaming's offerings get into a grind after awhile. So for those who do not wish to fully commit, the fullness of this game will be missed. The nuances of each of the tanks, the quirks of each of the crew members and what these boosters can do won't be appreciated.

~~~~~ What are the pros and cons of Project CW? ~~~~~

This is an Alpha release. Much may change between now and the final release.
Pros:
A true free-to-play game.
No advertising.
Beautiful graphics.

Cons:
We expect an annoying grind.
A tutorial is sorely needed. Where are the weak spots on a tank? What are these special abilities? It's not inherently obvious.

Bottom Line:
A arcadey tank vs tank game with enough realism to scratch the historical tanks of the period. A good game to get when one wants to blow off some steam without spending lots of real world cash.
