Maricopa, AZ - Police released body cam footage and the identity of the suspect who died during a Thursday afternoon shooting that left a Maricopa officer injured.

Keith Tyler Prock, 38, had outstanding warrants, a violent criminal history and was known to be part of a major gang, according to a spokesperson from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.

What led up to the Maricopa shooting that left suspect dead and officer injured?
Prock was seen leaving a Circle K convenience store in Maricopa just before 2:50 p.m., when officers approached him, he attempted to flee, according to police.

As officers pursued Prock he pulled out a black handgun and “shot a Maricopa police officer several times,” according to police.

A second officer returned fire as Prock continued to run and shoot at both officers.

Two detectives arrived as backup in an unmarked car. The detective sitting in the front passenger seat returned fire as Prock was struck by the car at the same time, according to police.

Prock was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured officer remains hospitalized and is in serious but stable condition, according to police.

A Maricopa Police Department officer and both detectives were placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
