In All of This Spectacle, Can We Please Not Forget the Victims

By Mike Dillon

Maybe these conservative podcasters originally reported on this story because they felt for the victims of sexual predator Jeffrey Epstein. But at some point, that went off the rails.

Epstein became the focus. Epstein became the Pop Culture Icon.

But we really can't blame them. America has an obsession of popularizing the criminal and minimizing the victims. Maybe because it's just too hard to think about what those young girls experienced.

But as someone who knew these girls, someone who went to High School with them at Royal Palm High and heard all the rumors and gossip firsthand, I'm asking you right now to think about them.

Think about how these girls learned at ages 15,16, and 17 years old that they could be prey.

Think about how they had to come to terms with the fact that they were tricked and recruited, through offers of money, that led to their rape.

Think about how many times they wished they had never said yes to going.

Think about their aftermath. Think about them telling their parents, the parents telling the police, only to be dismissed and not believed.

Think about how many times they saw ugly Epstein's face in their nightmares when they slept. Reliving the experience over and over.

Think about suffering those rumors in High School.

Think about, at such a young age, realizing that there are people who are above the law, who can literally get away with raping the most innocent of us, and face no consequences.

These girls, my friends from Royal Palm High School, all experienced what you don't dare to think about.

And frankly, it turns my stomach that their pain has been turned into a media carnival. Not just with the recent #Bindergate, but with mainstream media covering up the real story, and once again, ignoring and dismissing the victims.

The victims of Epstein were not just sexually exploited, they have been revictimized over and over by those in power who have kept this quiet.

Epstein, trips to the White House to get empty binders, should not be celebrated. Can we please just try to remember where all of this started, and that there are real girls, innocent girls, that were devastated by this.

To them it's trauma. To some it's a trip to the White House. To you, it's clickbait.

And that's just wrong.
