The Old North Church of Boston: Should You Visit?

The Old North Church in Boston is historically significant, but as a tourist attraction, it’s pretty much what you’d expect—a nice old church with some plaques and a brief lecture about lanterns. The real surprise is the printing demonstration at the Clough House, which is genuinely engaging; the demonstrators bring history to life by showing how colonial newspapers were made, letting visitors interact with the old presses, and sharing fun tidbits about revolutionary propaganda. As for the crypt below the church, it’s… well, a crypt. Dark, damp, and full of old tombs that you can look at but not much else—unless you really love standing in musty underground spaces, it’s not particularly thrilling.
