You have until Monday night to follow all the committee hearings. You may have a bill stuck right now that you are trying to get passed. Between now and Monday you need to be making calls to get the right bills out of committee and kill the bills that need to stay in committee. All bills have to be out of committee by Monday so they can get voted on by Thursday, crossover day. Governor Kemp can call the leader of the chamber to get a specific bill into a committee and onto the floor and voted on before midnight Thursday. This is when the deals are happening. Don’t close your eyes, watch for the deals.
There is nothing conservative about this bill. GA teachers might get the same benefits as police officers. Do you consider a teacher “in the line of duty”? GA offers public safety workers and their families special benefits if they are killed or injured in the line of duty as a recognition of the inherent dangers that come with the job. The payment for teachers will equal the amount of first responders–$150K and the bill was amended to expand a scholarship fund to include the spouse and children of teachers who are killed or permanently disabled by an act of violence in the line of duty. There are different ways that this could be handled.
Every time you pass a law the language that is put into the law opens doors. When it seems like the right thing to do, it usually kicks the door open for more legislation to be put in and expanded every year.
We are waiting on Buddy Carter. As Kandiss Taylor has announced her candidacy in the first district midterm. Carter has $3M in his coffers, he is the current congressman who has served 5 terms. As soon as Buddy announces there will be others to come out. Kandiss Taylor in the first district is going to cause problems for the GOP.
