Trump is driving the peace train

"The camaraderie was remarkable and, frankly, unexpected. You might remember that just a week ago, Macron was so angry with U.S. officials for going to Riyadh to meet with the Russian Foreign Minister that he called for an emergency summit. In Paris, it seemed like a tantrum—Macron and other Europeans were furious that they were supposedly being left out of the negotiations and didn’t trust Trump officials to meet with the Russians without them present. Things seem to have changed.

I think Macron came prepared to mend fences and work with Trump, and I believe that’s because the Europeans have no cards to play. Trump is leading this train. I think they realize that. I think they understand that they aren’t really being excluded. I don’t know how many times we’ve spoken with the French, the Ukrainians, the British, and the Germans. But I believe that by cooperating, by putting their position in front of Trump, they can be part of this process and stop being an obstacle."
