The protest. An act as old as politics itself. The canary in the coal mine of democracy. Molding culture, laws, even nations.

Your own moral code is likely built on some form of historical protest. The Crucifixion of Jesus. The Boston Tea Party. The March on Washington. Many see protesting as an act of public good. The courageous oppressed, rising, against their tyrannical oppressors. But this isn’t always the case. And the effects of a bad protest can be even more impactful than that of a good one. The crucifixion of Jesus, arguably, inspired a whole religion.

So what makes a protest successful? What separates MLK from BLM? December 16th from January 6th? And how does the just protestor become even worse than the injustice they claim to be fighting against?
