Welcome, Holy Month of Ramadan
Asslamoalaikum sisters, Brothers, Friends and elders. In this video, we warmly welcome the Holy Month of Ramadan, a time of reflection, devotion, and community. please be with us as we are describing the significance of this sacred month, its traditions, and the spiritual practices that bring and keep peoples together.
The arrival of Ramadan is a special moment for Muslims around the world, a time that holds both deep spiritual significance and an opportunity for personal reflection and growth. It is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and for many, it is a time of devotion, community, and compassion. Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, charity, and self-reflection. Muslims welcome this holy month with open hearts and minds, ready to embrace its spiritual benefits and the opportunities for transformation it offers.
Ramadan holds a place of immense reverence in the hearts of Muslims. It is considered the holiest month in Islam, during which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This divine connection gives the month its sacred status, and fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which form the foundation of a Muslim's faith and practice. It is not just a physical fast from food and drink but a time to abstain from negative behaviors, such as gossip, anger, and envy, and to focus on strengthening one's relationship with Allah (God).
The core practice during Ramadan is the daily fast, which begins at dawn (Fajr) and ends at sunset (Maghrib). Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, and engaging in marital relations during daylight hours. The fast is broken at sunset with a meal called *iftar*, which is often started with dates and water, following the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad. After iftar, many Muslims attend the evening prayers (Taraweeh), which are held in mosques or homes, and offer additional supplications for themselves, their families, and the global community.
In the early morning before dawn, Muslims consume a pre-fast meal known as *suhoor*. This meal is an important part of preparing for the day’s fast, providing nourishment to sustain them throughout the long hours of fasting. Suhoor is typically eaten before the call to prayer for Fajr, and many Muslims try to consume foods that are rich in fiber and protein to maintain their energy levels during the fast.
One of the most spiritually significant aspects of Ramadan is the pursuit of *Lailat al-Qadr*, the Night of Power. According to Islamic tradition, this is the night during which the Quran was first revealed, and it is said to fall during the last ten nights of Ramadan. The exact date is unknown, but many Muslims seek it out through extra prayers, supplications, and acts of worship, believing that on this night, the blessings and mercy of Allah are abundant, and prayers are especially powerful.
Ramadan is also a time to purify the heart and mind from negative emotions and desires. During this month, Muslims strive to be more mindful of their behavior, focusing on developing traits such as patience, gratitude, humility, and kindness. The practice of fasting helps to break the cycle of indulgence and excess, allowing individuals to reconnect with the deeper aspects of their faith and rediscover the value of simplicity.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Ramadan is the sense of community that it fosters. The daily fast is not only an individual practice but also a collective one, and there is a shared sense of anticipation and devotion throughout the Muslim world. Whether it is breaking the fast with family, sharing a meal with neighbors, or attending prayers at the mosque, the spirit of togetherness is palpable.
Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) was recorded as saying, “Actions are judged by the doer’s intentions. Whatever a man has set his heart on, he shall have it. So he who emigrates for God and his Messenger will be led by his emigration to just that destination. And he who emigrates for wordly reasons, to enrich himself or to marry, will be led to just those objectives.”
who emigrates for God and his Messenger will be led by his emigration to just that destination. And he who emigrates for wordly reasons, to enrich himself or to marry, will be led to just those objectives.”
It’s a reflective period where we analyze the person we are becoming.
Are we on the right path or headed down a bad direction? To err is human and Ramadan is the time to course correct.
InshaAllah, We hope the best for us this Ramadan. May we will all grow spiritually InshaAllah . Ameen
