The Vieux Carré is a classic New Orleans cocktail with a rich history dating back to the 1930s. It was created by bartender Walter Bergeron at the Carousel Bar in Hotel Monteleone as a tribute to the city's French Quarter—Vieux Carré literally means "Old Square" in French. This cocktail embodies the melting pot of cultures in New Orleans, combining the robust flavors of rye whiskey, the elegance of cognac, and the sweetness of vermouth, all rounded out with a touch of herbal Bénédictine and the complexity of bitters.

The Vieux Carre
- 3/4 oz Rye Whiskey
- 3/4 oz Cognac
- 3/4 oz Sweet Vermouth
- 1/4 oz Bénédictine
- 2 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
- 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

The taste profile has a bit of sweetness, a bit of fruitiness as well as a nice spirit forward punch of Rye makes this a fantastic late winter cocktail recipe.
