Storm of the Most High Blues – A Blues Song Inspired by Psalm 83

** Psalm 83 is a powerful psalm written by Asaph, a prophet and musician from the time of King David and Solomon. Asaph wrote this psalm as a desperate cry to God in the face of a coalition of nations that sought to destroy Israel and erase its name from history. The psalm reflects a moment in Israel's history when enemies surrounded them, plotting their downfall.

This song captures the deep spiritual plea for God's intervention, asking Him to rise against those who oppose His people. Asaph reminds us that God is the Most High over all the earth, and no enemy can stand against Him. The message of Psalm 83 still resonates today as a reminder that God's justice prevails, even when the world seems against His people.

Psalm 83 (World English Bible – WEB)

A song. A Psalm by Asaph.

1 God, don't keep silent.
Don't keep silent,
and don't be still, God.
2 For behold, your enemies are stirred up.
Those who hate you have lifted up their heads.
3 They conspire with cunning against your people.
They plot against your cherished ones.
4 "Come," they say, "let's destroy them as a nation,
that the name of Israel may be remembered no more."
5 For they have conspired together with one mind.
They form an alliance against you.
6 The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites;
Moab and the Hagrites;
7 Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;
Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;
8 Assyria also is joined with them.
They have helped the children of Lot. Selah.

9 Do to them as you did to Midian,
as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the river Kishon;
10 who perished at Endor,
who became as dung for the earth.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb;
yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna;
12 who said, "Let's take possession of God's pasture lands."

13 My God, make them like tumbleweed,
like chaff before the wind.
14 As the fire that burns the forest,
as the flame that sets the mountains on fire,
15 so pursue them with your tempest,
and terrify them with your storm.
16 Fill their faces with confusion,
that they may seek your name, Yahweh.
17 Let them be disappointed and dismayed forever.
Yes, let them be confounded and perish;
18 that they may know that you alone,
whose name is Yahweh,
are the Most High over all the earth.

Storm of the Most High – Blues Song Lyrics

Verse 1

Oh Lord, don't keep silent,
Don't turn away from this fight.
Your enemies are rising,
They're stirring in the dead of night.
They conspire against Your people,
Tryin' to blot out Israel's light.

Verse 2

They whisper in the darkness,
"Let's erase them from the land."
But they don't know Your power,
Or the fire in Your hand.
You made a promise, Lord,
And Your Word will always stand.

Chorus

Like the wind chases the chaff,
Like the fire burns the trees,
Let Your storm roll through the nations,
'Til they fall down on their knees.

Verse 3

The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,
Moab and the Hagrites too,
They have all joined hands together,
But they don't know what You'll do.
Lord, shake the earth beneath them,
Show them who they're bowin' to.

Verse 4

Like Midian in the valley,
Like Sisera at the flood,
You turned their strength to ashes,
You washed their might in blood.
So do the same again, Lord,
Show the world You are the Judge.

Chorus

Like the wind chases the chaff,
Like the fire burns the trees,
Let Your storm roll through the nations,
'Til they fall down on their knees.

Bridge

Fill their faces with confusion,
Let 'em seek Your holy name,
They may plot, but they can't prosper,
Against the One who always reigns.

Verse 5

You alone are Yahweh,
Most High over all the land.
Let 'em tremble at Your presence,
Let 'em see Your mighty hand.
The storm of the Most High's comin'-
Like a fire across the sand.

Outro

Oh Lord, don't keep silent,
Let Your justice shake the sky...
The storm of the Most High's comin'-
And the wicked can't survive.
