šŸŒ Prenzlauer Berg, colloquially also known as Prenzlberg or P'berg, is a district of the district of Pankow in Berlin, which consists largely of Wilhelminian quarters. From its founding in 1920 until its merger with the neighbouring districts of WeiƟensee and Pankow in the administrative reform in 2001, it was an independent district (1952ā€“1990: "Stadtbezirk").

Even in GDR times, students, cultural initiatives and writers shaped the image of Prenzlauer Berg. Especially since the 1970s, artists, oppositionists and punks moved into the houses with their dilapidated charm.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Prenzlauer Berg initially developed into a trendy district with numerous cafƩs, bars and clubs in the early 1990s due to numerous vacant commercial spaces, especially in the streets around Kollwitzplatz and Helmholtzplatz. However, these early underground bars and clubs disappeared again with the increasing redevelopment and gentrification of the district from the mid-1990s onwards.
