The Bandon School Board enacted an excise tax on new development without going to the voters, so I invited Superintendent Shauna Schmerer and Chair David Hisel on the podcast to give them a chance to explain their reasoning behind their decision.

In 2007, the state legislature passed SB1036 which allows school districts to impose a tax on new construction. The Bandon District is the first in the county to use this tax, even though many districts in other counties around the state use it to generate new funding.

In another interview, Commissioner Drew Farmer answered a few questions after the county's work session on the new policies for urban growth boundaries. We will also discuss how Mexican drug gangs are active in Coos County and what is being done about these criminals.
