News Nachdem Wyeth (jetzt Pfizer) mit Klagen wegen des DTP-Impfstoffs überhäuft worden war wandte sich das Unternehmen mit der Warnung an Präsident Reagan: Geben Sie uns Rechtsschutz oder wir stellen die Impfstoffproduktion ein. Präsident Reagan fragte Wyeth warum sie keine sichereren Impfstoffe herstellen könnten. Und Wyeth antwortete dass dies nicht möglich sei da Impfstoffe „unvermeidlich unsicher“ seien. Und dieser Ausdruck – „unvermeidlich unsicher“ – stand in der Präambel des National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) im Jahr 1986 als der Kongress das Gesetz zum Schutz der Impfstoffhersteller vor Schadensersatzklagen verabschiedete. „Und wer Ihnen also erzählt dass Impfstoffe sicher und wirksam sind dem wird von der Industrie selbst Immunität vor der Haftung gewährt indem sie den Präsidenten und den Kongress davon überzeugt hat

After getting hammered with lawsuits over the DTP vaccine, Wyeth (now Pfizer) went to President Reagan with a warning: give us legal protection, or we’ll stop making vaccines.

President Reagan asked Wyeth why they couldn’t make safer vaccines.

And Wyeth answered that they couldn’t because vaccines are “unavoidably unsafe.”

And that phrase—“unavoidably unsafe”—was written in the preamble of the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) in 1986 when Congress passed the law to protect vaccine manufacturers from injury lawsuits.

“And so, anybody who tells you vaccines are safe and effective, the industry itself got immunity from liability by convincing the President and Congress that vaccines are unavoidably unsafe,”
