Deliverance From Unbelief
There is a basic understanding of faith that gets lost in the language problem. This loss happens when translating biblical languages into English. To further the problem, words in English change meaning through time and generational usage.
In English, we use the words faith and unbelief as opposites, but the word unbelief carries a common meaning with less impact than faith.
For instance, people commonly say, “Well, I just believe…” but believe usually leaves room for error in common parlance. It’s like, “This is my philosophy.” But personal philosophy can change at a whim.

The biblical Greek word for faith is pistis. In English, it is translated many times as faith and sometimes as some form of believe.
In old English faithfulness meant fullness of faith, but today it carries the meaning of covenant loyalty.

The biblical Greek word for unbelief is apistis. It is faith with a prefix that makes it the opposite of the foundation word. It is best understood as pistis – faith and apistis – unfaith. (However, this is not good English.)

Since faith is substance, unfaith must also be substance, being equal to but opposite of.
Our point herein is that unfaith (unbelief) has substance and should be confronted whenever it is uncovered in the believer’s heart and life. If unfaith-unbelief takes hold of any portion of the believer’s life, it destroys faith. But unless we know that unfaith-unbelief takes up space, we don’t confront it and get rid of it.

Unfaith-unbelief is an enemy of the cross. If given a choice for some other pleasure, we want only to choose that which will increase the substance of faith, the measure that is from God.
Contending for faith is a much-needed discipline. Faith is the target of the enemy of our souls. But the gateway to the destruction of our faith is the circumstances of our lives that distract us from our faith. In short, we must contend for our faith to keep it and have victorious results.
As we contend for our faith we will also find the need for deliverance from unbelief. “Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

Effective prayer and effective fasting will both have the same result: Faith!

Faith and unbelief are like two kingdoms that clash. Only one will please God. If faith is substance, then unbelief is substance as well. If we work to destroy unbelief in our lives and give way to the Kingdom of God and faith the works/miracles of faith will manifest.

Faith is substance, but it must show in an activated life. Faith is actively working and manifesting miracle works.
