What Does School Really Teach?

A child attends school for 12 or 16 years and what is it exactly they learn in all those years? Is it tools that enable them to lead a fulfilling, emotional happy life, or do they simply memorize a lot of useless information to get good grades? Are they taught how to complete their income tax return, apply for a loan or mortgage or essential tools as cooking and maintenance of a home?
