An exotic bird that lost its large beak to cancer has a new one - made in a 3D printer. Jay the Great Pied Hornbill was diagnosed after workers at Jurong Bird Park noticed the bird had an 8cm gash on his bill. The disease had already claimed the lives of two other hornbills - so surgeons decided to try a different tactic. They removed its cancerous beak - called a casque - and teamed up with local engineers who spent two months designing and making a perfect new bill. Fascinating footage shows the huge 22-year-old bird on the operating table while surgeons in Singapore screw it into place.
