On the evening of February 18, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a shooting and armed robbery occurred outside a convenience store in the 800 block of Northwest 10th Terrace. The incident was captured on surveillance video, which shows the victim, identified only as "Reggie," conversing with a man draped in a blue Miami Dolphins blanket. The suspect, later identified by police as 61-year-old Alexander Albert Walkins, engaged in a brief exchange with Reggie before tensions escalated. Shouting ensued, with a voice exclaiming, "For what? I'm poor as you!" Walkins then drew a firearm and shot Reggie once in the leg. Following the shooting, Walkins robbed Reggie at gunpoint and fled the scene on a bicycle. Reggie sought assistance inside the convenience store and was subsequently transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he is expected to recover. Authorities arrested Walkins shortly after the incident. He faces multiple charges, including attempted felony murder, illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, violation of parole, and two counts of robbery with a firearm. As of February 19, 2025, Walkins is being held without bond at the Broward Main Jail.
