Germany is facing a number of major issues. High energy costs, bureaucratic delays, inflation and a crumbling infrastructure, among other problems, have weakened Europe's biggest economy.

Many in Germany are struggling to make ends meet and rely on the kindness of volunteers and workers at the country’s social institutions.

On February 23, Germans will elect a new government. But for many in need, hope for change remains low.

German voters go to the polls this weekend in an election dominated by concerns about immigration. The country is expected to reject the incumbent left-leaning Chancellor Olaf Scholz in favor of a center-right candidate, followed closely by an anti-immigrant party that has the backing of the Trump administration. Special correspondent Malcolm Brabant reports from Berlin.
