Kash Patel, FBI
Kash Patel, FBI
By Terry A. Hurlbut
Yesterday, Kash Patel won confirmation by the Senate of his nomination as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The usual suspects – Democrats and RINOs – voted against him. All but one: Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) His vote is actually suspect, because it has more to do with advancing the candidacy of someone he has hand-picked to succeed him. Beyond that, the quality of opposition to Kash Patel says more about the critics than about him. In fact, his Directorship will be the last chance to redeem the FBI from its tarnished political legacy.
Qualifications for Kash Patel
Kash Patel is a veteran of the first Trump administration. He prosecuted several members of ISIS, and also prosecuted the team that bombed the World Cup soccer match in Uganda on July 11, 2010 (the “Seven-Eleven bombing”).
More recently, during “Trump One,” he prosecuted those who perpetrated the “Russia Hoax,” or the idea that then-Candidate Donald Trump was a Kremlin asset during the 2016 election campaign.
The opposition to him announced itself at once after Donald Trump nominated him shortly after Thanksgiving last year. Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe complained that “no part of the FBI’s mission” would be safe.
The installation (or the nomination, I guess we should say at this point) of Kash Patel as FBI director can only possibly be a plan to disrupt, to dismantle, to distract the FBI and to possibly use it as a tool for the president’s political agenda.
Actually, Kash Patel once suggested shutting down the FBI’s Washington headquarters and reopening it as a Deep State museum. (He might still do that, if he plans relocating the FBI to a “Red State” to purge the cadre of Special Agents of their apparent leftist bias.)
Ambassador John Bolton accused Trump of picking Patel as his “Lavrentiy Beria.” Vice-President J. D. Vance made this obvious retort:
John Bolton has been wrong about everything so I guess Kash must be pretty awesome.

Many others accused Patel of being a Trumpian political creature. They even cited the January 6 Event, in which he did not participate. In fact, Kash Patel was the officer who called three different officials for authorization to have elements of the National Guard present in Washington for the January 6 electoral-vote certification. All three – including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), then Speaker of the House – turned him down. With the result everyone knows.
Other insights at the hearing
Patel made that clear at his confirmation hearing, when Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) questioned him about that event. He made a few more things clear when Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) questioned him about Christopher Wray’s conduct as Director. That conduct concerned direct weaponization of the FBI against:
• Parents who show up at school board meetings to protest lewd, obscene, and/or lascivious content in school libraries, content with Alphabet Soup-friendly themes,
• Donald Trump himself, even while he was a candidate, whom the FBI surveiled without warrant or reason, and
• Religious people who protest the continued practice of abortion.
That Kash Patel has certain knowledge that Nancy Pelosi let January 6 happen, is frightening enough. But in his earlier White House position, Patel learned a few secrets and experienced Deep State obstruction first-hand.
Also at the hearing, Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) implied that Patel favored those who assaulted Capitol Police officers. Reliable witnesses – who prefer still to remain anonymous – have told CNAV, in no uncertain terms, that such assaults did not take place. (The Capitol Police officer who complained that someone nearly broke his hand, suffered that blow from a colleague.)
As the Senate prepared to vote
Within days of the Kash Patel nomination, President Joe Biden pardoned his son Hunter. He followed that up with “preemptive pardons” for all members of the House “January 6 Committee” – which include Adam Schiff.
Also, former FBI Special Agent Peter Strzok wiped his X account clean after Patel cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee. While he was doing that, search activity on terms like “criminal defense lawyer,” “wipe,” “erase,” “BleachBit,” etc., saw curious spikes.
Yesterday morning, six Democratic Senators, including Schiff and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), spoke outside FBI Headquarters. Said Whitehouse:
Kash Patel, mark my words, will cause evil in this building behind us.

Schiff called Patel a “political hack” who would
weaponize [the FBI] against the president's political opponents, rather than protecting the safety of the American people.

Then one more interruption occurred: Sen., Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) made official what everyone had long suspected.
Seven times my fellow Kentuckians have sent me to the Senate...Representing our Commonwealth has been the honor of a lifetime. I will not seek this honor an eighth time. My current term in the Senate will be my last.

Shortly thereafter, Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced her intention to vote against Kash Patel.
The nomination of Kash Patel to serve as Director of the FBI comes to the Senate against the backdrop of recent personnel actions at the Department of Justice, including the resignations of several career federal prosecutors who felt they were being instructed to act in a manner inconsistent with their ethical obligations. In addition, a questionnaire has been sent to thousands of FBI employees regarding their involvement in certain investigations.
As I have stated previously, these initiatives raise the specter that adverse actions could be taken against FBI employees – including special agents in the field – who have dedicated their careers to public service and who do not choose their assignments. It is critical that any efforts to promote accountability at the FBI be carefully calibrated and not have the effect of driving away dedicated public servants who keep our country and communities safe.
In this context, there is a compelling need for an FBI Director who is decidedly apolitical. While Mr. Patel has had 16 years of dedicated public service, his time over the past four years has been characterized by high profile and aggressive political activity. Mr. Patel has made numerous politically charged statements in his book and elsewhere discrediting the work of the FBI, the very institution he has been nominated to lead. These statements, in conjunction with the questionnaire sent to thousands of FBI employees, cast doubt on Mr. Patel’s ability to advance the FBI’s law enforcement mission in a way that is free from the appearance of political motivation.
While I strongly support efforts to ensure all federal employees perform their responsibilities ethically and in accordance with the law, Mr. Patel’s recent political profile undermines his ability to serve in the apolitical role of Director of the FBI. Therefore, I will vote against his nomination.

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) also voted against Patel, though she did not say why. Then Sen. McConnell surprised everyone by voting for Patel in the final vote. Patel won his confirmation, 51-49, with all Senators present and voting.

Shortly thereafter, Kash Patel changed his X handle to reflect his new position, and posted this statement:
I am honored to be confirmed as the ninth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Thank you to President Trump and Attorney General Bondi for your unwavering confidence and support.
The FBI has a storied legacy—from the “G-Men” to safeguarding our nation in the wake of 9/11. The American people deserve an FBI that is transparent, accountable, and committed to justice. The politicalization of our justice system has eroded public trust—but that ends today. My mission as Director is clear: let good cops be cops—and rebuild trust in the FBI.
Working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Bureau and our partners, we will rebuild an FBI the American people can be proud of. And to those who seek to harm Americans—consider this your warning. We will hunt you down in every corner of this planet. Mission First. America Always. Let’s get to work.

But even before the vote took place, the possible reason for Sen. McConnell’s retirement announcement suggested itself. Daniel Cameron, once a candidate for Governor of Kentucky (he lost to Andy Beshear), announced his run for the Senate.
Kentucky, it's time for a new generation of leadership in the U.S. Senate. Let's do this.

Kentucky residents were not impressed. Most called Cameron “McConnell’s hand-picked replacement.” One voter announced his support for a different candidate.
Respectfully, no sir. You lost the gubernatorial race. I agree that it's time for a new generation of leadership, though.
That's why I am supporting Nate Morris, the 44-year old 9th generation Kentuckian, who made his millions by investing in Kentckians, unlike Mitch, who made his millions by selling us out.

Why Kash Patel is a good fit
The behavior of the Senate Democratic Conference, and particularly certain members of it, vindicates Trump’s choice of Kash Patel. So does Patel’s history, including first-hand history with the January 6 Event and the Russia Hoax. He knows where all the bodies are buried – and who buried them.
Sen. Collins is wrong. The only way to “de-politicize” the FBI is to purge it of those who helped make it political. Sen. Schiff is wrong, also – for Christopher Wray was the Deep State’s Lavrentiy Beria. Kash Patel will be the Nuremberg investigator-in-chief, as Attorney General Pam Bondi will be the Nuremberg prosecutor-in-chief.
Patel’s warning about “hunt[ing people] down in every corner of this planet” reflects his anti-terrorism experience. He also is offering the olive branch to anyone who joined the FBI thinking it was the FBI of legend. But to the cynical bully-boys, he says good-bye – or perhaps, “You have the right to remain silent.”
Actually a few men, who flew “The Lolita Express,” might soon be hearing “The Miranda Warnings.” The Attorney General announced yesterday that she has several documents relating to the late Jeffrey Epstein “on [her] desk waiting for review.” Patel has already promised to release those.
The days to come promise to provide plenty of excitement.
