D.C. (Dist. of Criminals), February 21, 2025 — Former Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio was arrested outside the U.S. Capitol on Friday following an altercation with a protester, just moments after he and other recently pardoned January 6 defendants held a press conference declaring their return to Washington, D.C.

Tarrio and a group of former J6 detainees gathered near the Capitol to celebrate their release and announce a lawsuit against the Department of Justice, arguing that federal agencies deliberately provoked the events of January 6, 2021. Tarrio, who was sentenced for seditious conspiracy but had his sentence commuted by President Trump, vowed to challenge the government’s narrative.

"We will not allow the government to rewrite history. We will not allow them to control the narrative. We will not stand idly by," Tarrio stated, revealing that the lawsuit would be funded in part by a Proud Boys-themed cryptocurrency token.

Shortly after the event, a confrontation between Tarrio and an anti-Trump protester led to his arrest. Capitol Police claim that a woman holding a phone near Tarrio's face was allegedly struck by him, prompting her to file a complaint. Officers arrested Tarrio for simple assault as he and his group walked toward Union Station.

Despite the incident, the rally marked a symbolic return for J6 prisoners freed under Trump’s sweeping clemency order, which saw over 1,600 individuals receive pardons or commutations. The lawsuit, they claim, is just the beginning of their fight to expose government misconduct.
