EasyJet pilot collapses mid-flight, leading to emergency stop

FEBRUARY 8TH, 2025. About 2 hours into an EasyJet flight from Hurghada, Egypt to Manchester, England, the pilot suddenly collapsed. The first officer made an emergency landing in Athens, Greece.

“UAL1309 B38M, [name redacted] reported at time 1200Z that the pilot had a heart attack and was removed from the cockpit. First officer is flying the plane. At 1210Z, [name redacted] called back and stated the pilot had regained consciousness and returned to the cockpit. They were unaware in what capacity the captain was performing his duties, only that he returned to the cockpit. UAL1309 Landed RWY without incident at 1219Z and taxiied [sic] to gate A20 without delay. Paramedics were standing by.”

During that conversation I learned of another pilot who died suddenly during the taxi sequence on a different flight. Management at Qatar and Emirates Airlines are investigating the increase in sudden deaths and disability claims according to the individual I spoke with.
