South Africa beat Afghanistan by 107 runs in the 3rd match of CT-35. Ryan Rickelton POTM.
The 3rd Match of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was played between Afghanistan and South Africa at National Stadium Karachi on 21st February,2025. In this match South Africa defeated Afghanistan by 107 runs. In this match South Africa Captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat first.
South Africa while batting first scored good total of 315 for the loss of 6 wickets in their allotted 50 overs and gave target of 316 runs to Afghanistan to win. In reply Afghanistan were all out at 208 runs in 43.3 overs only and lost the match by 107 runs.
Soth Africa started very well and batted superbly. They first lost the wicket of Tony de Zorzi who made 11 runs caught by Azmatullah Omarzai of the bowling of Mohammad Nabi.
Then the other opener Ryan Rickelton and Temba Bavuma added 129 runs for the 2nd wicket and consolidated South African innings.Temba Bavuma made 58 runs and was taken by Mohammad Nabi caught by Sediqullah Atal.
Van de Dussen scored magnificent 52 runs from 46 balls hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Ryan Rickelton was run out after making brilliant 103 runs form 106 balls hitting 7 fours and 1 six.
David Miller made 14 runs and Marco Jansen went without scoring. Aiden Markram remained not on 52 runs from 36 balls hitting 6 fours and 1 six. Wian Muldar remained not out on 12 runs from 6 balls hitting 1 four and 1 six. South Africa made 315 runs for 6 wickets.
Mohammad Nabi bowled superbly and took 2 wickets. One wicket each went to Fazalhaq Farooqi’ Azmatullah Omarzai and Noor Ahmad.
Afghanistan while Chasing target of 316 runs to win lost early wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring just 10 runs caught by Keshav Maharaj of the bowling of Lungi Ngidi.
South Africa lost the second wicket of Ibrahinm Zardan at the score of 38 runs bowled by Kagiso Rabada after scoring 17 runs only.
Sediqullah Atal was run out cheaply making 16 runs, Azmatullah Omarzai also got out early making 18 runs. Rahmat Shah top scored with 90 runs from 92 balls hitting 9 fours and 1 six. Rashid khan made 19 runs and Fazalhaq Farooqi remained unbeaten on zero.
Kagiso Rabada took 3 wickets and two wickets each were taken by Lungi Ngidi and Wiaan Mulder.One wicket each went to Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj. Sedaqullah Atal was run out.
Afghanistan could score only 208 runs all out in 43.3 overs and lost the match by 107 runs. Ryan Rickelton was named the Player of the Match.
