White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Defends Spending Cuts Amid Criticism

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed reporters today, responding to concerns about the administration’s aggressive budget cuts, often described as a "chainsaw approach" by critics. While some constituents in traditionally Republican districts have voiced frustration over job and spending cuts, Leavitt dismissed these concerns as selective media narratives.

"I love how the media takes a few critics when the overwhelming response from the American people is support for what this administration is doing," Leavitt stated. Citing a CBS poll, she emphasized that "70% of Americans believe President Trump is delivering on his promises." She reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse—a pledge Trump made during his campaign and is now actively implementing.

Addressing Fraud in Government Spending
When questioned about fraud, Leavitt defended the administration’s stance, pointing to instances of wasteful spending, including funding for vasectomies in Mozambique and DEI programs. She also referenced an Inspector General report from the Social Security Administration, which identified $71 billion in fraudulent payments between 2015 and 2022.

Pressed on whether the administration has referred fraud cases to the Justice Department, Leavitt fired back:
"Are you defending $71 billion in fraud? That’s a lot of money. Why is the media so against cutting waste, fraud, and abuse from the government?"

She reiterated that the administration is dedicated to investigating improper payments and ensuring taxpayer dollars are not wasted.

Firm Stance Against Press Pushback
Leavitt also challenged reporters over claims about deceased individuals allegedly receiving Social Security benefits, asserting that the administration has “unanswered questions” and is actively investigating potential large-scale fraud. "We suspect there could be tens of millions of people receiving improper payments, and we are committed to finding out the truth," she concluded.

As the administration pushes forward with its budget cuts, Leavitt made it clear: President Trump will not be deterred by media skepticism or political pushback.
