The Hidden Hand of the Nuclear Industry | The Manhattan Project (1986) Film | Battelle/DoE/Hanford

I just rediscovered "The Manhattan Project" from 1986...a film that I remembered quite well from that era but seems to have fallen off the radar in recent times. While films like WarGames or Colossus focused on the dangers of all out nuclear war caused by AI....not many got very deep into the "National Laboratory" aspect when it comes to cinema....though we did get Oppenheimer, as a film recently...I haven't seen it to be honest.

I'm not telling you this is 'classic' cinema but it was well written and produced enough to not be relegated to dust bin of forgotten 80s films. It's actually quite good & gets deeper into the Dept of Energy lab system & politics than one would expect. There is even mention of specific places members of my own family (DoE employees) worked at or spent time at.

I thought the film would be a good springboard for going deeper into the National Lab system...because really, that is the 'hidden hand' of the defense industry...hiding weapons projects under the guise of bettering man....no one is better at 'that' deception that Battelle.

Battelle is the 'real life' non-profit that brings these labs to life...they are mostly managed by Battelle or have a significant connection through Battelle...nearly 'all' the National Labs in America. THat is also where the Elon Musk core group is operating from, IMO but that's from a lot of research which I'll share with you again tonight.
