Suspect with Handgun Ran Over by Police After Shooting at Vehicles

At 9:52 a.m., Country Club Hills police officers responded to a call for service for a motor vehicle crash in the area of W. Florissant Avenue and Lucas and Hunt Road. While responding, officers were advised the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was firing a gun at vehicles.

Two St. Louis County police officers arrived on scene to assist and observed a male firing a handgun with an extended magazine walking westbound on W. Florissant Avenue toward Ferguson Avenue. The male fired a shot at one of the police officers and the police officers then fired at the male. The male then ran west on W. Florissant Avenue to Ferguson Avenue. A St. Louis County police vehicle then struck the male at the intersection of W. Florissant Avenue and Ferguson Avenue.

Officers on scene began performing CPR and rendering aid to the male. The male was transported to an area hospital and succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

On January 14, 2025, the deceased was identified as Durell Dorn, 37 years of age, of the 5200 block of Gilmore Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri 63120.

No injuries were reported by anyone in the area. A handgun with an extended magazine was recovered from the suspect at the scene.
