The time has finally come, 83 year old Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell is retiring. According to Politico, McConnell will announce that he will not seek reelection in 2026 later today. While this decision was expected, McConnell previously refused to step down after multiple health issues which concerned me that he may stick around despite deteriorating.

Famously, McConnell froze while giving a speech after he suffered from a concussion. And just recently, he fell down a flight of stairs which shows his condition is not improving. It looks like being the longest serving Senator isn't an accomplishment people should strive for.

Former President Donald Trump has announced plans for an audit of the U.S. gold reserves stored at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The intention behind this move is to confirm the presence and quantity of gold, spurred by recent discussions and calls for transparency. Elon Musk has expressed interest in livestreaming this audit, which would be the first significant check on Fort Knox's reserves since 1953. This initiative responds to various conspiracy theories questioning the existence of the gold at Fort Knox.

Trump said, We're gonna go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is there... If the gold isn't there we're gonna be very upset."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to block Truth Social, the social media platform tied to former U.S. President Donald Trump, has ignited a firestorm of debate amid the ongoing war with Russia. Announced on February 20, 2025, this move underscores the fraught relationship between Zelensky and Trump, two figures whose interactions have long been shaped by geopolitical stakes, personal egos, and the shadow of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky’s government justified the ban by pointing to concerns over disinformation, a persistent issue in Ukraine as it battles Russian propaganda alongside physical aggression. Truth Social, known for hosting unfiltered and often polarizing content, may have been seen as a potential vector for narratives that could undermine Ukraine’s war effort. Critics, however, argue this smacks of authoritarianism, accusing Zelensky of stifling free speech to control the narrative—a charge that echoes Trump’s own frequent complaints about censorship.
The Trump-Zelensky dynamic has been rocky since 2019, when Trump’s impeachment centered on allegations he pressured Zelensky to investigate political rivals. Trump has since oscillated between praising Zelensky’s leadership and questioning U.S. aid to Ukraine, often aligning his rhetoric with skepticism of NATO and a softer stance toward Putin. Blocking Truth Social could be Zelensky’s jab at Trump’s influence, especially if he suspects Trump’s platform amplifies voices sympathetic to Moscow.
Putin, meanwhile, looms large. Russia’s invasion, now in its third year, has devastated Ukraine, and any hint of division between Kyiv and its Western allies—including a Trump-led U.S.—serves his interests. Zelensky’s move might aim to neutralize pro-Russian disinformation, but it risks alienating Trump’s base, which could wield influence if he reclaimed power.
This digital blockade highlights a broader clash: a war fought not just with weapons, but with information, where leaders like Zelensky, Trump, and Putin vie for control of the narrative.
