Apartheid: A Policy Of Good Neighborliness

Dr. Hendrick Verwoerd elucidates the simplicity of Apartheid: "A policy of good neighborliness. Recognizing the existence of differences among people, this policy acknowledges these differences while enabling coexistence and mutual assistance."

On September 6th, 1966, Dr. Hendrick Verwoerd, often referred to as the "Architect of Apartheid" due to the policies he implemented during his tenure as Minister of Native Affairs and Prime Minister of the Republic of South Africa, was assassinated. He was stabbed in the chest and neck while at his desk in Parliament. His assassin, a 48-year-old parliamentary messenger named Dimitri Tsafendas, secured the job despite being a zealous communist with a history of engaging in revolutionary activities and terrorism. However, this was not the first attempt on Verwoerd's life. Six years prior, at the Johannesburg agricultural show, he survived being shot in the head twice.
