The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., was evacuated late Thursday morning after a bomb threat.

A spokesperson confirmed that D.C. police received a call reporting a bomb threat at the Kennedy Center at 10:44 a.m. The department’s Explosive Ordinance Division is assisting U.S. Park Police, the spokesperson said.

Sgt. Thomas Twiname, a Park Police public information officer, confirmed that they have units there but declined to offer more details. Several staff members spotted canine units in the center.

Staffers received a series of text messages, reviewed by The Washington Post, just before 11 a.m.

“Evacuate Kennedy Center, move to the Reach,” they read. “Please remain in place at the REACH until further notice. Those who can leave campus WITHOUT entering the building should do so. The garage will be accessible soon.”
