With their works more than 20 years apart, it was not possible for J.R.R. Tolkien not to have known about Robert E. Howard's stories especially those with Conan.
Did Tolkien find inspiration from Howard's more raw, swashbuckling tales? Further, with the Conan sagas full of action and adventure, did Gary Gigax and his crew of dungeon masters borrow heavily from the Cimmerian's exploits?
