Snarky Thought of the Day 2/19/25: The News Media

News should be straightforward—this is what happened—but it’s not.

“News” these days is catered to echo chambers; each political side gets to determine what they believe to be true.

I grew up in a small town, filled with small-minded people.

I see them on social media these days—Twitter, Facebook—and because they remained physically and socially isolated for most of their lives, they remain closed-minded.

Frank Zappa’s Society Pages, from You Are What You Is, resonated with me immediately.

I was young, but I knew truth when I heard it.

Today, the song is more relevant than ever, which is sad.

You’d think the advent of the Internet, and the ability to hold all of history’s information in the palm of our hand, would’ve made us smarter, but God…

We took the possibilities and ran screaming in the other direction.

Without the Internet, would flat earthers have grown in popularity?

Qanon?

The dumbest of the dumb are allowed to find one another, and multiply.

And our “news?”

It caters to us.

And we are dumb all over.
