To propagate raspberries and blackberries through tip layering, you need to start by selecting long, healthy canes. This method works best in late summer or early fall. Prepare the soil by loosening it up and adding some compost for extra nutrients. Gently bend the cane towards the ground, dig a small hole, and bury the tip about two to three inches deep. Make sure it stays in place, possibly using a stone or garden staple. Water the buried tip thoroughly and keep the soil moist. Over the next few weeks to a couple of months, the tip will develop roots and form a new plant. Once the new plant is well-established, you can separate it from the parent plant and transplant it to a new location.
