GARDASIL HPV, CANCER TRIAL DELAYED

After years of false starts, the trial got underway in January and was slated to run for six weeks. However, on Feb. 14, attorneys for Merck and the plaintiff agreed to reconvene the trial in September, with a new jury and new information.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Gardasil human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine in 2006 after being “fast-tracked” over six short months. The FDA’s fast-track process is designed to facilitate the development, and expedite the review of, drugs or vaccines to treat serious conditions and fill an unmet medical need.
