Monk Parakeets Build Their Nest

It's quite a spectacle to see noisy, green-and-gray Monk Parakeets zipping through U.S. cities. Native to South America, these birds became a common sight in the 1960s, thanks to the pet trade. Unique among parakeets, they nest communally, with dozens of birds living together year-round in large, multifamily stick nests built in trees and on power poles.
