At least 9 people are dead, including 8 in Kentucky from winter storm

Severe storms and flooding have killed at least nine people in the U.S., including eight in Kentucky, where heavy rain caused creeks to swell and roads to flood.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear reported 1,000 rescues and warned residents to stay off roads. President Trump approved a disaster declaration for the state.

In Tennessee, a levee failure led to mandatory evacuations, while Alabama saw tornado damage.

In Atlanta, a falling tree killed one person, the Associated Press has reported.

Meanwhile, extreme cold warnings were issued for parts of North Dakota, Montana, South Dakota, and Minnesota, with wind chills as low as -50°F.
