(How We Should Take Examination)
Text: 1Peter 1:7
Objective: endure trials, testing and examination positively and pass with flying colors
Intro:
Define – trial, test, examination, temptation, precious, gold, affliction, refining
Process of gold mining to purification
Affliction verses – blessings when passed
How to Pass, Excel and Succeed when we are Tested?
1) Understand the Trials itself
a) Purpose - why is it necessary?
b) Who does the Testing – Gen. 22:2 – God himself – testing of Abraham
c) Types of Trials/Tests
i) It may appear strange to us – Obey anyway – Joshua 6:3- test of obedience
(1) Also 2Kings 3:16 – valley full of ditch - Elisha
ii) Lack of Resources – Judges 7:7 – Fight anyway- Gideon with only 300 men left
iii) Requires us to be dependent – 1Kings 17:9 – Depend on it anyway – Elijah and poor widow
iv) Requires us to choose priorities well – poor widow over Elijah and self/son
v) Trusting even on the End of the line – desperate situations- 1Kings 17:13
vi) Preparing Extensively for something you’re not Expecting to come – 2King 4:3
(1) Pot of oil – Elisha and poor woman
vii) Personal, Internal and Deep Trial – Ps. 17:3, Dan. 13:10
viii) Refining Process – Zec. 13:9; Mal. 3:3
ix) Very intense Trial/Trouble – like a storm – Luke 6:48
x) Test for Ultimate Rewards – final test – 1Cor. 3:13, James 1:12
2) Consider Trials of Faith from the Lord as a Refining process – makes us better
a) Grow matured/perfect – Job 23:10 – like gold/silver is purified- Ps. 66:10, Is. 1:25
b) Expect Hardship – Isaiah 48:10, Jer. 9:7(melt), Zec. 13:9(fire), Mal. 3:3 (purge), 1Pet. 4:12(fiery)
3) Look to the Rewards that it will bring about
a) Glorification – Mat. 13:43 – shine, Romans 8:17; Phil. 3:21 (glorious body);
i) Col. 3:4(appear with Jesus in glory); Rev. 22:5 (reign forever)
b) The Best Rewards from the Lord
i) Honor from and with the Lord – Luke 12:37 - Crown –1Peter. 5:4
ii) Presence of the Lord - in fellowship forever- John 14:3
iii) Likeness with the Lord – Ph. 3:20-21(fashioned glorious body) 1Jn 3:2
iv) Glory with the Lord – Col. 3:4, 1Thes. 3:13, 4:16
Message/conclusion:
Let us Pass, Excel in trials, testing and examination and reach our Final Goal, Glorifying the Lord
