Banh nam is a famous rustic cake of Hue cuisine along with banh beo and banh loc. The appearance of banh nam is quite similar to banh loc because both are wrapped in banana leaves. However, unlike the transparent color of the tapioca cake that can see through the filling, the Nam cake has the characteristic white color of rice flour with a layer of filling spread evenly on the top, looking extremely attractive.

The thickness of the cake is only about 1cm and is made from rice flour, shrimp, meat and carefully wrapped in banana leaves by the baker. Therefore, it is not only delicious but also beautiful.
The filling for Nam cake is usually made from lean pork, minced chicken, shrimp, shrimp paste, etc. For vegetarian Nam cake, this filling will be replaced with green bean filling.
