Why ETSU lost to Chattanooga 78-71. And are ETSU fans too complacent? February 16, 2025

The Buccaneers may have been playing shorthanded, but still could have won with better defensive strategy.

But why are ETSU fans actually happy? It's one thing to consider playing competitively is a positive sign for upcoming tournament play. But so much of ETSU fandom seems to champion losses like these, witness the romanticism last year of losing a close football game to North Dakota State or historically losing to Oklahoma in the 1989 NCAA Tournament. That mentality keeps a program thinking small, and witness how so many one-time rivals have passed ETSU by over the last 30 years or so, or how the Bucs haven't defeated a nationally ranked basketball team since their 1992 NCAA Tournament victory against Arizona in 1992.

So hit the button and subscribe to Marky Billson's channel for the best ETSU commentary. Because who else can reference the 2007 Atlantic Sun Tournament final against Belmont, where the Bison torched ETSU with nine first-half 3-point goals against a zone defense to cruise to an easy victory in Johnson City with an NCAA Tournament berth at stake?
