BILLIE EILISH

On December 18, 2001, a little girl with strong, blue eyes comes into the world in Los Angeles, California. But before the future star is born, her family isn’t sure what to name her. They finally decide on Billie Pirate Baird O'Connell. But one of her family members, the uncle, argues the word pirate has fairly negative connotations and says he doesn't want a little girl's middle name to refer to piracy. They end up compromising by moving the name Pirate a little further down, and choosing Eilish as a new second name. Although the name Eilish sounds unusual, it’s actually a Gaelic version of Elizabeth. Gaelic language and culture originate from Ireland and Scotland, and because Billie has family roots in these countries, her family decides to associate her name with them. To Eilish they add her mothers’ maiden name - Baird and finally the name O'connel after her father. Just before Christmas, Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connel finally sees the light of day.

Her parents are actors Maggie Baird and Patrick O'connel. And while they may be actors, they also devote themselves to music. Her father, Patrick, plays piano and ukulele while her mother, Maggie, composes songs.

Billie Elish's unique and artistically inspiring home environment is later confirmed by her brother Finneas (Fineas) O'Connel, 4 years older than Billie, growing up to become a music producer, songwriter, singer, and actor. By the way, fans of the Tv show Glee may know Fineas, where he plays the character of Alistair. At the same time, he appears in series such as Modern Family and Bad Teacher, where he portrays the character of Spencer.

But back to Billie! This future star of world pop music grows up in Los Angeles in Highland Park in a classic detached house, and while it may be quite strange, she sleeps in the same bed with her parents until she’s ten years old. It's clear from childhood that she has musical talent. Billie plays ukulele and composes her own songs. But because her house is relatively small, Her parents later start to sleep in their living room, letting their daughter have her own room where she can develop her talents in peace. While many people now like to say that Billie grew up in a very luxurious house in a classy neighborhood, she says this is not true. She says her neighborhood was not as nice and safe as it is today. When Billie was a child she even heard gunshots in the area.

Billie is shaped from her childhood to be a successful musician. Her Parents provide her and Fineas with an ideal background and upbringing for future fame. Neither sibling attends school, instead they’re homeschooled by mom and dad. Her Parents believe that instead of a classical education, it is better to put teaching into practice. So, for example, Billie learns math very unconventionally - while cooking together with her brother and mother. Billie says she enjoyed being homeschooled. But this doesn't mean that she’s against classical education. "It's just a pity, she says, that nowadays, when teenagers have more information than they ever had in the past, no one takes their opinions seriously.

Young Eilish's best friend is her brother, and from their childhood, they share a passion for music. In their free time, they do almost nothing else. While other kids go to school and have fun outside, Billie studies and writes songs at home. Her parents even have a rule that if they’re playing musical instruments at night or composing music, the kids don't have to go to bed. So both siblings often stay awake late into the night.

They are also inspired by listening to manz different kinds of music. Billie loves The Beatles, Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance and Lana Del Ray. The music style she later creates is heavily influenced by these artists.

Both siblings were also brought up as vegetarians. Tofu burritos are the singer’s favorite food. But she also enjoys pigging out on Indian food. In 2014, Billie changes her diet from vegetarianism to veganism. Why? She says she wants to slightly mitigate the impact of human behavior on the environment. By not eating animal based products, she wants to contribute to a better state of our planet and to motivate other people to think about what they eat.

At the age of 12, Billie writes the song Finger's Crossed, inspired by The Walking Dead, and even uses specific passages from the main characters' dialogues. In one Walking Dead scene, the character Daryl Nixon says "cause everybody makes it till they don´t". Billie uses the same sentence directly in the chorus of Fingers crossed.
