What should Trump do differently about Greenland? (STS)

Simply “taking over” Greenland would be a gross usurpation of the rights of the Greenland people if the American federal government were to pursue that course. What should be done differently which would help stabilize American influence in the area for geopolitical reasons while respecting the rights of the Greenland people?
