Ikaruga is a vertical-scrolling shoot 'em up developed by Treasure and originally released in 2001 for arcades and the Sega Dreamcast. Later, it was ported to multiple platforms, including the Nintendo GameCube (2003), Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Renowned for its unique polarity-switching mechanic, Ikaruga is considered one of the most challenging and innovative games in the shoot 'em up genre.

At its core, Ikaruga features a dual-polarity system, where the player can switch their ship between black and white polarities. Enemy bullets of the same polarity as the player's ship are absorbed, charging up a special attack, while bullets of the opposite polarity cause instant destruction. This mechanic adds a strategic layer to traditional bullet-hell gameplay, requiring players to not only dodge enemy fire but also switch polarities at the right moments to survive and maximize damage. The game features five intense levels, each with intricate enemy patterns and massive boss fights, requiring precise movement and quick reflexes.
