Apple Changed The Bagel Emoji Following Wishes Of Unsatisfied Users
Was Apple pressured to add cream cheese to its bagel emoji? In this clip of “Fact or Fiction” the topic centers around emojis. There has been a story going around today that claims that Apple changed its bagel emoji because it did not include cream cheese.
And we have come to find out that this rumor is actually true! Sounds a bit strange at first doesn’t it? Many automatically wonder why it would even matter whether or not a bagel emoji had cream cheese in it or not. Why is that important? Why does that matter? What is the purpose of changing it? What problem would that actually fix?
At first, Apple put out an emoji that portrayed a dry, plain looking bagel. Many social media users expressed their displeasure with this because the bagel did not look appetizing or delicious being that it was plain and had no filling or toppings at all.
What happened after that? Well, Philadelphia Cream Cheese company also jumped in. That is pretty predictable we would think, though. Of course, a cream cheese company would want to jump on this bandwagon and would definitely want Apple to change the emoji. Why? Most people eat first with their eyes. If something does not look appetizing to the eyes, chances are that it will not get attention or chosen as a meal. When foods look good, they are consumed more often.
A cream cheese company would want this emoji to contain cream cheese because, of course, seeing this would possibly have some people automatically say, “Oh, man, you know what, that sounds really good right now. A bagel and some cream cheese, oh yes.” Think about that though. Is there really a problem with the emoji? Or is the cream cheese company just trying to do what they can to boost their sales? It is not a difficult question to answer.
The company actually launched a post and a Twitter poll with a tongue in cheek change.org petition. This made the issue much more widespread, and everyone began to respond all over social media, just as the company surely wanted to happen. It almost seems like yet another form of propaganda let loose on the American public as a sort of influence that many people may not even recognize. What would be particularly interesting is to see how much Philadelphia Cream Cheese sales were boosted after all of this happened. We could be completely wrong here, and perhaps their sales did not rise at all.
However, it can pretty much be assumed that they would have had to rise at least a little bit. Therefore, it seems like the company got exactly what they wanted. After all this pressure began to mount against Apple’s dry bagel emoji, they ended up changing it. They released the new emoji of the supposedly “doughier” bagel, oh yes, complete with cream cheese. This all seems like a very strange topic for people to get so upset about to most viewers.
