In 1988, American execution equipment designer Fred A. Leuchter authored a document known as "The Leuchter Report." Commissioned by Holocaust denier Ernst Zündel for his defense in a Canadian trial, the report aimed to assess the feasibility of mass homicidal gassings at Nazi extermination camps, particularly Auschwitz. Leuchter collected samples from the remains of the crematoria and gas chambers at Auschwitz and submitted them for chemical analysis. However, the report has been widely discredited due to flawed methodology and Leuchter's lack of expertise in chemistry and toxicology. Critics highlight that Leuchter's analysis failed to account for critical factors, leading to erroneous conclusions. Despite its discreditation, the report remains a focal point in discussions about Holocaust denial.
