Good Works and the Great Commission

In contemporary Christianity, there is an increasing emphasis on social activism and good works as an expression of faith. Many believers dedicate their lives to feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and advocating for justice. These are noble pursuits, rooted in biblical principles of love and compassion. However, an important question must be asked: Are good works being elevated above, or even replacing, the core mission of the church—the Great Commission?
Christ’s final command to His followers was not merely to engage in acts of kindness but to preach the Gospel and make disciples of all nations:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matthew 28:19-20)
While acts of service can be instrumental in opening doors for evangelism, they must never become a substitute for it. The modern church must guard against the tendency to prioritize temporal relief over eternal redemption.

That means God wants to give us the Holy Spirit—but He’s waiting for us to ask! So today, let’s talk about why we should ask for the Holy Spirit in every prayer.
