Philippians 3 –Leaving our “Christian” ways behind and setting the goal on the Heavenly Father. 2017
Phil 3:8-16
Phil 3:8
More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish in order that I may gain Christ,
Phil 3:9
and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
Paul says that all things are loss in view of the value of knowing Yeshua Messiah. Paul knew that Judaism boasted on its knowledge and wisdom and thought they had gain in those things. But they were fleshly gains without the Spirit of Elohim. Paul became a man who wanted righteousness through faithfulness in Yeshua Messiah. Paul knew that the only thing to boast of is of knowing Elohim and his grace, justice, and righteousness Jer 9:23-24).
Phil 3:10
that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;
Phil 3:11
in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Paul did not want righteousness through Judaism. He wants the righteousness of Yeshua Messiah in order to attain to the resurrection of the righteous John 5:21-29)
Phil 3:12
Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.
Paul knew that he has not attained perfection. He realizes that the only righteousness we have is that righteousness that Elohim performs through us (Psalm 119:173-178, 138:8).
Phil 3:13
Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
Phil 3:14
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Paul says he is going to forget his past in Judaism. He is pressing toward the call of Elohim in Messiah Yeshua (Psalm.
Phil 3:15
Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you;
Phil 3:16
however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained.
Every believer who is mature should have this same attitude. We should be desiring to attain the calling of Elohim and to keep living by that same standard we have attained by Torah.
